About Ki-Aikido
SHIN SHIN TOITSU (KI) AIKIDO FACT SHEET
Shin Shin Toitsu Aikido
• Shin Shin Toitsu Aikido is also referred to as Ki-Aikido
• The finesse, timing, and power of Ki-Aikido arise out of the internal “aiki” of mind body unification
• More than a martial art, the mind/body coordination practice of Ki-Aikido develops physical and mental balance, flexibility, and focus for handling the challenges of everyday life
What is Aikido?
• Japanese defensive martial art
• Aikido means “the way of harmonizing with energy”
Ai = harmonize Ki = energy Do = the way or path
• Aikido utilizes powerful flowing moves that defuse and redirect an attack by working with the opponent’s force
• The techniques “unbalance” the opponent and lead them to the ground in a pin or a roll (participants learn to fall safely by rolling with the momentum of the throw)
• Aikido does not rely on size or strength; the art provides an excellent self-defense practice for women and men of all ages
What is Shin Shin Toitsu?
• Japanese Yoga
• Shin Shin Toitsu means “mind body unification”
Shin = mind Shin = body Toitsu = unification
• Centering and focusing practice
• Develops relaxation, mindfulness, coordination, flexibility, and balance
